2017 APL Award - Highly Commended
Design and build by: Creative Landscape Co. Designer: Mark Gillard (Director)
Achieved 'Highly Commended' at The Association of Professional Landscapers awards 2017
Creative Landscape’s garden design and build team has transformed this previously neglected and unused garden into a contemporary outdoor room integral to the house to seamlessly extend the living space.
The rectilinear design of this calming and elegant courtyard garden includes central paving areas for eating and relaxing, defined by subtle alterations in the paving pattern. The courtyard is enclosed by Venetian timber panels and a row of small Cherries and Pleached trees for privacy. Subtle planting changes provide all year structure and seasonal interest. Atmospheric lighting to key planting adds visual drama and extends enjoyment of the garden well into the evenings.
The client required a natural but modern garden space to enjoy with family and friends during the day and into the evening and a garden they could 'leave' for a month or so at a time when travelling.
They regularly entertain a lot of family and friends therefore needed to extend the eating, seating and chilling area to the outside. It was also important to enjoy the view of the garden from the house both day and night. The old garden was completely unusable and hidden behind curtains. The new design now provides the functional space and privacy required to entertain plus a calming atmosphere created by sophisticated planting and lighting and enhanced views from all angles.
Remote control lighting and an outdoor heater lamp fitted to a loggia area both extend enjoyment of the garden into the evenings and a simple irrigation system on a timer helps reduce the maintenance required.
"Working with the design team at Creative has been a stress free experience. They worked step by step with us to really understand our requirements and interpret the brief to a first class standard resulting in a design reflecting both our personality and the functional requirements for our garden. Their vision has delivered us a magnificent garden transforming what was a tired and mis-used space"
