2004 BALI Award
National Landscape Awards 2004
Winner: Creative Landscape Company
Project: St Marks Road, Henley-on-Thames, Oxon.
Clients: Alison & John Blythe
The clients and their home hold a history of information that unfolds into a story of restoration, rejuvenation, passion and beauty. The house and garden, once in the family of the Antarctic explorer Captain Scott, have both been carefully and painstakingly transformed.
The garden scheme itself echoes the interior of the house. Formal and inviting with the use of Box hedging and numerous topiary, blending in a sensual cottage feel with the use of planting and landscape layout. Essentially Creative Landscape’s role in this project is and continues to be from a grounds maintenance perspective.
Throughout the past five to six years, they have helped the garden to evolve through re-planting and numerous small hard landscaping tasks.
Initially the contractor was engaged to sympathetically restore the garden which had become very tired and was implemented in memory of the untimely death of the owner's 22 year old daughter. The ongoing garden maintenance is undertaken to a very high quality on a carefully planned basis. A delight to judge.
